When Rich Kilmer founded InfoEther as a for-profit company to specifically leverage Ruby’s power, he also co-founded (along with Chad Fowler and David Alan Black) a non-profit company, RubyCentral to evangelize Ruby and promote it through conferences and the Ruby open-source project site, RubyForge.
